A Day at the Lake

Richard, the girls, and I just returned from two days in Chetek, Wisconsin, where we were visiting friends from Illinois who make a yearly trek to vacation at a cabin on the lake. (Thanks, Larry and Tammy and boys. We had a great time!) Before we got Maddie home, we didn't know if we'd be able to go at all, but since Maddie has adjusted so well, we thought we'd give one quick overnight trip a try. It couldn't have gone better. Madeleine and Isabel had a blast playing outdoors, going for a boat ride, watching the water ski show, and swimming in the hotel pool. We stayed at a hotel rather than renting a cabin because it was such a short stay, but we did get adjoining rooms. We put the girls down for a later afternoon nap on Sunday, so they'd be able to stay up late to watch the ski show. This was their first experience sleeping in the same room. At first, it was very quiet. And then Maddie started to talk to Ibby. After a few minutes, she was doing everything she could to make Ibby laugh. (One example...a few weeks ago, we were all in the car driving somewhere, and we were teaching the girls how to say "yeeeeee-haw" like a cowboy. I don't know why. We just were. So anyhow, Maddie can say "yeeeeeee-haw" really loud and with this funny twangy accent, and it just cracks Ibby up. So when they are in their hotel room supposed to be napping, Maddie is in there yelling "yeeeeee-haw" and Ibby is giggling away.) So the two of them were cracking up, and Richard and I were listening and laughing. After about fifteen minutes, Mom had to crash the party and tell them to be quiet and go to sleep. Can you believe it? They did! They slept for two solid hours after that. Then it was off to dinner and a show, the ski show that is. The girls really had fun watching the boats and the skiers. They were clapping and yelling, "Awesome," one of Isabel's favorite words that Maddie has now picked up. They had kind of a late bedtime because of the ski show, so when we put them down for the night, Ibby squawked once, but after I went back in the room and told her that Maddie was right there with her and that Mom and Dad were next door, she went back down without a peep, and both girls slept the whole night through until morning. We are thinking that maybe that the two of them sharing a room may happen sooner rather than later.

Here are a couple of shots of them in their brand new life jackets.

A nice day, a friend with a boat...does it get any better?

I'm so glad that they are both doing so well and that Maddie is adjusting beautifully. It reminds me of a picture frame I got Katie that reads "Sisters first...friends for life".

Sounds like I fun little trip. So glad they are already 'sisters'. I'm sure listening to the giggle instead of sleeping was kind of nice. I'm not sure if I could have stopped the fun.

:)

That sounds like a lovely time!
They sound like they were having the time of their lives giggling and carrying on before their nap.

I can't wait to see how Wendy will do with her new brother.

Reading your posts makes me want to go back and bring a little (or big) sister home for Maiya! I don't think it's in our cards though, so we'll just have to have a lot of sleepovers with friends when she's ready.

Keep an eye out for a package to arrive later this week or early next. A little something for the girls that I can't wait to see them using on one of your posts! I just wish we lived closer so Maiya could join them in the fun!

xxoo-

I am so happy to here that Maddie is adjusting so well and that the girls are enjoying sisterhood. Looks like you had a ball at the lake!

How did the girls like the boat? R has just great sea-legs...it's his favorite place to be.

Looks like you all had a nice time.
